Toshiba enters touch phones with 1GHz TG01...!!!

Toshiba on Tuesday announced their latest Windows Mobile device. Toshiba TG01 will be the fastest phone available and also be thinner than the iPhone as Toshiba claimed.


The phone supporting a 4.1-inch touchscreen, with WVGA (800 x 600 pixels) resolution, measuring 9.9mm thick. The screen also contains many of the Toshiba's HDTV technologies, such as color matching, dynamic gamma correction and LCD backlight control. Toshiba's new GUI is aimed to for one-handset use, with finger-friendly vertical panels that can be swiped through and rotated like vertical blinds. The processor is a Qualcomm Snapdragon and is the first device to use Qualcomm's 1GHz Snapdragon QSD2850 chipset. The phone runs on Windows Mobile 6.1 but will have customized front-end and full support for Flash-based video as well as DivX. That might turn some readers off the TG01. About 512 MB of storage will be onboard but can be supplemented by microSD cards. Moreover, the phone has features as 3G HSPA, Wi-Fi, GPS and A-GPS.



Toshiba TG01 also features its own 3D user interface and it claims to be working with several to produce downloadable, internet-enabled games. The video and gaming running on the demo TG01 handsets were both smooth, slick and high-resolution, even in the less than ideal lighting environment. There will also be a new feature which will allow users to answer and hang up phone calls by shaking the phone. Toshiba hasn't set pricing but anticipates shipping the phone in the summer to at least Europe. Get the real with Video  of the UI.
