Sprint Issues BlackBerry 8350i Update


The BlackBerry OS 4.6.1.128 for the BlackBerry 8350i is now available to download. The BlackBerry OS upgrade  addresses some of the issues, but the “echo issue” that has been a major issue for owners is not contained in this release. Sprint has said that they are working closely with RIM to address this issue and they expect a second maintenance OS upgrade to address this issue soon.

From the BlackBerry's site, it is explained the Installation Instructions:
  • You must download both the desktop and handheld software to a temporary location on your hard drive.
  • Please read the installation instructions (available below) before installing the software.
  • Be sure to install the desktop software first, then the handheld software on your computer. The handheld software will update the software on your BlackBerry Wireless Handheld(TM).
Sprint is making the upgrade available via their Website and the company is reaching out to IT administrators. While the update addresses these major issues:

  • Commercial Location Services functionality is enabled.
  • NXTl: Device may lose data connectivity and show status as NXTl and not NXTL.
  • Blank Screen: Device screen loses all information and goes blank.
  • Multiple IP address issue where the device would be assigned more than one address when provisioned, causing data issues.
  • Media Missing Audio Tracks from Same Artist.
  • Direct Connect/Direct Send My Contact Device Reset Issue.
  • Direct Connect Audio Issues.
